LX 570 - Luxurious, Loaded, Lexus

The Lexus LX 570 is being called "a loaded Toyota Land Cruiser" costing $10,600 more, but the added Lexus refinements are substantial. The first thing you notice after the ease of entry into the vehicle, unlike other jump-up-and-in SUVs, is the suspension system controls in the console that elevate and lower the vehicle by as much as 3 inches using computer-managed hydraulics designed to improve stability. The LX 570 does share the same 380+ horsepower 5.7 liter V8 as its Toyota Sequoia and Land Cruiser siblings. When there's some open freeway, like the twisting and turning 110 from downtown Los Angeles to Pasadena, and your mind slips into sports car mode with the pedal to the medal, you get performance and handling from the LX 570.

The LX 570 has many of the Lexus features found on the flagship IS F like push button start and stop, the navigation system, rear view reverse-mode camera and motion activated side mirror lights, to name a few.

When I saw the new Sequoia I was impressed that they went with 3rd row seat stowage into the floor, however, the LX 570, though 8.6 inches shorter, stows the 3rd seats to the side albeit with an effortless push of a button. Also, the power rear tailgate is remote controlled. It's a split tailgate so if you're parked on a hill the lower part of the tailgate will prevent your groceries from sliding onto the pavement when the upper portion opens hydraulically.
Price
The LX 570 base MSRP is $74,700 and the vehicle shown here has a price tag of $80,000, and without optional DVD and TV entertainment system.

Competitors
The LX 570 is an 8 passenger vehicle, unlike many of its competitors which are seven. The larger, loaded, four-wheel drive Toyota Sequoia, Lincoln Navigator and Infiniti QX56 are priced in the mid-$50,000 range. As mentioned, the Toyota Land Cruiser, with the same engine as the Sequoia and LX 570, is $64,100. The top-of-the-line Platinum Cadillac Escalade, with DVD, has an MSRP of $79,095.

Sales
LX 570 sales are growing impressively given high fuel prices and a weakening economy with March sales of 642, April sales of 799 and May sales of 827.

This is, after all, a Lexus, making the LX 570 possibly the most plush, comfortable, nimble-handling large SUV on the market.
